As a school we house an Olympic Committee, this committee ranges from year 8 to year 10 students, the girls come together working as team to discuss future Olympic Projects at the school.
The projects aim to include all of the Olympic and Paralympic values. For example, we introduced a ‘cycle week’ this gave students the chance, for some, to try a new skill that they have never experienced before, and others the opportunity to further their education by completing a cyclist training course at level 3, giving our students the inspiration to push themselves further and the courage to try something new.
Along with this we have introduced 3 new sports into the school, Cricket, Handball and Tag Rugby. Each allowing students to achieve excellence, and create new friendships through playing sport.
We have also introduced an Olympic Day, this was brought together with Science, Geography, Design Technology, Art and PE, giving students the opportunity and the equality to sign up to different aspects of the Olympics, whether this be learning about Olympic clothing, designing logo’s, stadiums, locations for sites, it gave students the insight to other aspects of the Olympics.
Future plans:
As a school we have a number of projects to continue living the Olympic and Paralympic Values.
During the summer we aim to give each form class an Olympic Country, this being obtained from each continent, thus giving the same number of countries from each continent, introducing respect and inspiration, giving the students a chance to learn about their country and its athletes/history.
We will also be hosting inter-form events, there will be 5 different sports, allowing all students to achieve excellence by taking part in at least one of the events, this will be carried through to sports day, where each student will take part in at least one event, promoting equality and courage to take on a sport in which our students feel comfortable in competing.
During the schools ‘Every Child Matters’ days we will be introducing the London Education and Arts Programme, this will give students in years 7, 8 and 9 the opportunity to further their understanding in the following areas: – Sportsmanship – Ethics – Role Models in Sport – Fair Play – Drug Free Sport – Team Work – Goal Setting
This will broaden our students’ knowledge and give them further inspiration on the Olympics and its values.
As a Catholic school we are very conscious that linked to the Sport of the games is what we hope will be a true legacy of peace and bringing people together. We aim to commemorate the games through a festival of peace involving Music, Dance and the Arts. Also reaching out into our community and creating something that will last such as a Mural or piece of sculpture. |
