BBC News Day.
Work for BBC News School Report Sports Day 2010
Listen to our broadcasts
On Thursday 1st July 20 students from Year 9 who are taking PE GCSE next year took part in the first BBC School Sports Report day. Deadlines were tight and tension was high as they had to gather the research, hunt down people to interview and get their scripts together for radio reports broadcast live at 2pm. They were helped brilliantly by our local radio expert – Andy Sayers, who helped them to edit their work and took the students through how to create a professional sounding sports report. They made the deadline and the reports were fabulous. Topics ranged from interviews with ex-Olympic athletes, to local gym owners, to leaders of local initiatives encouraging young people to get sporty. A highlight of the day was a report that two students made in partnership with our exchange school in Spain – the Mary Ward school in San Sebastian. They interviewed students from the school to find out how excited they are at Spain’s success in the World Cup. This particular report appeared in the BBC News and can be heard on the official BBC Sports Report website: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/school_report/student_reports/8781239.stm
Well done to all of the girls involved.
