A. Almeder

This week I, along with Mrs Strong, Mrs Warnock and Ms Almeder have been interviewing the candidates for the Junior Leadership Team. The girls first of al nominated themselves, this list was then put to the staff for endorsement and then to the student vote. Finally they have a bit of a grilling by the SLT! Not really, we were very gentle.
However, it is an op-portunity for the girls to convince us they have the qualities required in Head Girl. It is not a popularity contest as there are Very definite responsibilities that par-ticularly the Head Girl has. Fortu-nately, all the candidates recognised that most importantly they have to be a role model to other students!

I am looking forward to working with the girls and hopefully they will have lots of ideas on how we can improve the school for everyone.
I must say a huge thank you to the JLT led by Claudia Oppong. It isn't easier coping with the responsibility of office as Head Girl and working for your GCSEs. Claudia did an excellent job, as did all the girls. Thank you

Welcome back! And a warm welcome to all our new Year 7 pupils who have joined us, we wish you all the best on your journey
with us through St Catherine’s.
We hope you all had a wonderful safe holiday, and are ready to work hard in this coming year. We hope you have had a
positive start and that the Year 7 students feel very much at home in our school environment. For all the girls in the
upper Years (10 and 11) this is a year for knuckling down and getting things done. As the Year 11s already know, time is
everything and there’s not enough of it so make the most of the time you do have and KEEP to deadlines!
We hope lots of you have volunteered to be guides and helpers on the Open Evening (7th October). Enjoy your weekend.

Year 11s had their Leaver’s Mass after their finial GCSE, Father Michael Branch performed a beautiful mass which was really in
touch with the students this was followed by speeches, presentations and performances which everyone thoroughly enjoyed
and joined in with.
The Year 11s left very cheerful, clutching their Year Book and Prom Ticket.
The Year 11s brought their
parents/carers to St Catherine’s.
The day ended with a Prom which was held at Charlton Athletics in one of the hospitality
suites. Despite a very hot evening everyone danced their toes off!! We wish them all the best for their future.
This week the Year 7s, 8s and 9s have participated in a Media Arts Festival which included the Year 8s having slam poetry
sessions and some even making their poems into short films! On the Wednesday 1st July 40 students went out to the O2
arena to take part in a concert.
We also had some students visit us from St Thomas More making short films.
On Thursday 2nd
July there was a Cabaret, so well done to all the girls who took part, you were all great.
Years 10s have now finished their exams and are looking forward to their end of year trips, but not before they squeeze in
some more learning! They also have a visit from Christ The King Sixth Form. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
JLT

This week some of the members of JLT, including our Head Girl, Claudia Oppong, our Senior Prefects Rebecca Sharkey and
one of our Prefects Kristy Scoter all gave a presentation on Thursday morning to at least 70 people, all from a range of
schools.
This included talking about the history of our school, our school in general, the School Council and the media arts
section at our school.
It was very successful and a good opportunity to express why our school is special.
There have also
been quite a few exams going on this week and we wish the girls all the best.

The mock Spanish and French speaking orals have been taking place throughout the week and we hope that everyone has tried their best and
done well.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

We would like to welcome you all back from what we hope was an enjoyable holiday.
We would like to say thank you for everyone's participation in the own clothes day that took place before half term we managed to raise £1050.
This is going to support the La Sainte Union Sisters school in Tanzania, these are the same sisters who founded our school. We have had quite a bit going on this week.
Thank you to all the girls who made the cupcakes to support Breast Cancer Research and to those who brought them. Students in Year 8 and 9 are going to see The War Horse, a play about the First World War in London.
We also had a Year 10 retreat to Whitstable which took place Wednesday till Friday. In addition to this next week there will also be mock Spanish and French orals taking place for us, so we wish the girls the best of luck.
We hope all the Year 11s are doing well in their exams.
We hope you all have a great weekend,
JLT.

Head girl Claudia Oppong has shared with the Governors her vision for our school and the leadership team would like to share them with you:
As Head Girl, there are many changes and improvements I would like to bring to St Catherine's.
Some of these changes include investing in more recycling bins and raising awareness of the use of recycling.
I would like to make recycling second nature to the pupils, which I would like to make enjoyable by maybe rewarding prizes for their efforts.
Another aspect of the school that I would like to explore is the talents. I would like for everyone to express their talents, by maybe hosting more evening talent events and competitions.
One of the talents I would especially like to explore is the sports. I believe it is very important that each pupil has a good level of involvement in sport, and this would require making more clubs available that all pupils would enjoy.
Furthermore, I want to make a wide range of courses available for students.
I want the older years to be heading towards the right direction of their career path, and eventually knowing what they want to do later on in life. I will try to do this by organising more career talks.
However, the most important change I want to make is to strengthen the communication between teachers and pupils. I am prepared to be the voice for the pupils, and voice their opinions.
I want to acknowledge those who are less confident and allow them the opportunity to voice their opinions. I have already begun this by visiting the other years during Form Time and asking for their opinion on our current Reward System.
I want to be the link between the relationship of teachers and pupils.
This week the JLT welcomed the Year 7 parents who attended our Parents Evening.
Mrs Dennett complimented us by saying that without our help it would not have run as smoothly as it did.
We had our Own Clothes Day today which has been in support of our Sisters running the LSU school in Tanzania.
We hope all the Year 11 did well in their exams this week, we shall keep them in our prayers as they revise over the half term.
