Year 7 Catch-Up Premium

The literacy and numeracy catch-up premium gives state-funded schools, including special schools and alternative provision settings, additional funding to support year 7 pupils who did not achieve the expected standard in reading, maths or grammar at the end of key stage 2 (KS2). The DfE no longer provide a list of specific students at KS2 that fall into this category.  The school uses baseline measures from the SENCO, the English and Maths Departments and the NGRT (Reading tests) to assess the students that require intervention support in Reading, Grammar and Maths.

In 2018 to 2019, we hope the DfE will allocate funding to schools on the basis that they receive the same overall amount of year 7 catch-up premium funding they received from 2016. It will be adjusted to reflect the percentage change in the size of their year 7 cohort, based on the January 2018 census.  The school works with primary feeder schools to identify students that fall into these categories, in addition to data from CAT and Reading Age tests.  For St. Catherine's Catholic school, this grant is estimated to be @£11,000 but is not paid until July 2019.
