Common Prayers
Our Father who art in heaven
Hallowed be your name
Your kingdom come your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day, our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
AMEN
Hail Mary full of grace
The Lord is with you
Blessed are you among women
And blest is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God
Pray for us sinners now
And at the hour of our death.
AMEN
Glory be to the Father
And to the Son
And to the Holy Spirit
As it was in the beginning
Is now and ever shall be
World without end.

Morning Offering
Lord I offer you this new day. I offer you everything that will happen. I offer you the routines and boring parts of the day ahead. Help me to keep listening to you, to do what you inspire in me and to shoulder the crosses that wait for me on this day’s journey into learning, friendship and love with you.
AMEN
Scripture Readings
Scripture Reading 1
Having found Jesus in the temple Mary said to him “Young man, why have you done this to us? We have been half out of our minds looking for you”. Jesus replied “Why were you looking for me? You must have realised that I would be here, dealing with my Father’s business”. Mary and Joseph did not have the faintest idea what he was talking about but Jesus went back home with them obediently enough. Luke 2.48
Scripture Reading 2
If God pays so much attention to the wild flowers that are here today and thrown away tomorrow, don’t you think God will also pay attention to you too and do the best for you? Don’t you see that you can be so busy about owning things that you miss what God wants to give to you for free? People who don’t know God get worried about everything. But you know God and how God works in little things. So don’t worry about what you need. Your Father knows what you need and you will not be forgotten. Gospel Matthew 5.6 (paraphrase) |
Scripture Reading 3
You need to be the light of the world. You can’t hide a city if it is built on top of a hill everyone can see it for miles around. Your goodness should be like that, it should shine out for everyone to see. When people see your goodness, happiness and peace they will be happier and more peaceful themselves. They will get to know God through your goodness and help to build a better world. (Paraphrased Matthew 5.14-16)
Scripture Reading 4
Jesus said “I am telling you the truth, a grain of wheat just remains one grain of wheat unless it falls into the ground and dies. It is only when it dies that it grows into a new plant and produces many seeds. Whoever puts themselves first in everything will never grow into fullness of life. Whoever sacrifices their life in kindness for others will find life in abundance. (Paraphrased from John 12. 24-35)
After the reading, the class responds: Thanks be to God |
