U13 Football Tournament
St Catherine’s played in a U13 football tournament held by Charlton Athletic Football Club at their training ground in New Eltham. The girls competed twice against 4 other schools. The standard of play displayed by St Catherine’s was excellent with fantastic teamwork demonstrated throughout the tournament.
We ended the tournament finishing joint top with Erith School on 17 points. Unfortunately it was decided on goals scored and Erith had scored more goals than ourselves.
The girls had a fantastic day and were a credit to St Catherine’s in the way that they conducted themselves.

This week we found out some fantastic news that our school has been selected as the ‘Get Set network school of the month’ for October 2011!
We were selected out of all secondary schools across the UK in the Get Set network because we have demonstrated outstanding commitment to living the Olympic and Paralympic Values in both creative and innovative ways.
They based this selection upon the fantastic blog entries made by Mrs Valentine and Miss Moore, in particular for celebrating Black History Month by learning about the 1968 Games, holding Every Child Matters Olympic Days and Brazilian Inspired Fitness Sessions, as well as your cross curricular work.
As a result of this achievement they are going to reward our school by showcasing our hard work and organising a surprise visit - more information to follow!!!!

Zumba!
On Wednesday 12th October classes in years 10 and 11 were lucky enough to take part in the latest fitness craze Zumba in their PE lessons. Zumba is a dance fitness class, with its moves drawing inspiration from South American dance. The sessions were enjoyed hugely by all the girls and I am in the process of setting up an after-school session for year 10s and 11s, which I am sure will be very popular.

Year 9 and 10 netball v Bexleyheath academy

Netball
For the first time in over a decade we managed to have two teams for our year 10 netball team, this is a tremendous achievement considering many in the borough don’t even have 1 team. This was the first time each team had played together with many new players being drafted in.
All the girls played really well but the three players of the match were – Rebecca Timeny, Eirinn Ounsworth and Farren Chillern.
Unfortunately we lost both games – A team 6 – 2 and the B team 6 – 0.
Well done to one and all

Lunchtime Cycling Club
These extra curricular cycling clubs are open to everybody but will be on a strictly first-come, first-served basis to the first fifteen girls to arrive. The clubs will start very soon – we are just waiting for our lovely bikes to be delivered to us! I will let you know as soon as they do so that you can get cycling!

Step into Dance – Extra Curricular Dance for all!
The Step into Dance extra curricular dance sessions last year were been extremely successful, with the group making it into the overall London show at Sadler’s Wells.
I am very keen to keep this after – school lesson going, here is some more information about the classes. The sessions are taken by a teacher recruited by The Royal Academy of Dance, and these classes are partially funded by the Jack Petchey Foundation. The classes will continue to be on a Tuesday after – school, between 3.15 – 4.45pm. There are several performance opportunities each year, with the most notable being the Borough performance which then leads onto the overall London performance at the end of the school year.
All abilities are welcome, the key point is that pupils must be 100% committed to attend rehearsals every week, and display a positive attitude.
Due to changes in funding this year, we are asking for a very nominal fee of £20 for the whole year to help pay for the sessions, which I am sure you will agree is very reasonable indeed. If you are interested in joining, look out for the letters in your registers or see Ms Husband. |
