Areas Studied Key Stage 3


A wide range of Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing in different genres and styles forms the heart of the English Curriculum across all years at Key Stage 3.  A range of novels are studied; some that are particularly selected appropriate to the ability range of an individual class and others that are studied across the whole year group.  Texts for curriculum study are reviewed each year.


Examples of texts studied are below:


Year 7:      Skellig and Blake’s Poetry, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Introduction to Media, Dickens.
Year 8:      Twelfth Night,  Private Peaceful, Chanda’s Secrets, Chinese Cinderella, Ballads, Stone Cold.
Year 9:      Romeo and Juliet, The Other Side of Truth, To Kill a Mockingbird, Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice.

Areas Studied Key Stage 4

GCSE courses

Year 10 - AQA English Language and AQA English Literature
The course includes:  the study of a play by Shakespeare; a novel from the Literary Heritage; a modern novel reflecting another culture; Speaking and Listening Assignments; the Study of Spoken Language; and writing that displays creativity.

Year 11 - AQA English Language and AQA English Literature – final controlled assessment(s) to  be completed from this course as well as preparation for the final GCSE Examinations in both English Language and English Literature. Cambridge iGCSE for target group.

News and Events: 

All year 10 students will be studying the novel Jane Eyre as part of the English Literature curriculum in preparation for their Literature Controlled Assessment task.
