Careers Education and Information, Advice and Guidance at St Catherine’s Catholic School for Girls
At St Catherine’s Catholic School we have a comprehensive Careers Education and IAG programme.
We aim to improve student performance and motivation by ensuring that their schoolwork and successes are relevant to their future.
We encourage students to evaluate their strengths, values, skills and interests and to have a wider view of the world of work. We support children in making choices that are aspirational and realistic.

Work Experience
In the Autumn term students in Year 10 start the process of planning two weeks of work experience. The work experience placement will take place in the first two weeks of Year 11.
Students initially are asked to think about what they would like to do for work experience, how far they arte able to travel. A form is completed by the student in conjunction with their parent/carer to ensure that sensible choices are made. This form is handed in on the first enrichment day in the Autumn term.
Students may find their own placements if they wish but parents/carers need to be aware that every placement will undergo a Health & Safety check before being approved. Every employer must provide proof of Employer's Liability Insurance if they wish to take on a work placement student.
The Careers Adviser will be available at the Year 10 Consultation evening and will be very happy to answer any questions parents/carers or students may have.
Forms need to be handed in by the end of May to ensure the organisation of placements runs smoothly.
All students should arrange an interview with their work placement so that they know exactly what to expect on their first day. They will have been given advice and guidance on how to conduct themselves during an interview.
During the two weeks, students are expected to complete a Work Experience Diary. Whilst on work experience, students are monitored by staff from St Catherine’s School who will either visit the placement or contact the student by telephone. Any concerns of the student or the employer can be relayed to school at any time.

Events
Post 16 Choices Evening
Our Post 16 Choices Evening has gone from strength to strength. This vibrant event had to be moved to a larger venue to accommodate the all who were attending. Students were given the opportunity to discuss the opportunities available to them with 22 post 16 providers, which included Dartford Grammar School, Beth’s, Hadlow College, Bexley College, Army and University of Greenwich. There was almost 100% uptake from families which meant the event was bursting at the seams!
