Welcome to the ICT Homepage
ICT
St. Catherine’s School has a network of over 200 computers including desktop PCs and wireless laptops. Every pupil has access to their own PC to enable them to develop their creativity and understanding of the latest computer hardware and software technologies. Interactive whiteboards are used extensively throughout the school including 5 bespoke ICT and media suites. An upgraded network was installed in August 2008 and provides leading edge technology to deliver a vibrant and challenging curriculum. In years 7 and 8, pupils study ICT to consolidate and extend their KS3 ICT capabilities. Topics include database development, modelling and presentation.
In year 9, pupils begin the OCR Nationals (level 2) which are equivalent to GCSE standard at grade A-C. New and existing skills are used in multimedia development.
All year 10 pupils undertake the OCR National First Award in ICT. Current projects involve developing ICT skills for business and creating a professional video including sound and animations to support a business opportunity.
Year 10 pupils who select ICT as an option complete further modules including creating computer graphics and website design.
All year 11 pupils complete their OCR Nationals leading to between 1 and 4 GCSEs.
By delivering key skills in ICT the department’s goal is to develop the knowledge and understanding required to enable each pupil to become an ICT expert - fully prepared for the technological challenges ahead. In addition we aim to provide an opportunity for pupils to develop their ICT creativity in other subjects across the school curriculum.
