Pupils receive three 50 minute lessons a week of a foreign language, and are able to attend after-school booster clubs in the GCSE years. The department is committed to providing pupils with a sound understanding of the grammatical structures that will allow them to communicate confidently and accurately, both in the GCSE examinations and in real-life situations with native speakers.

We run three very popular foreign trips. In Year 7 pupils may take part in a one-day visit to the Christmas market in Amiens in northern France.
There the girls experience a taste of the language and culture that they are just beginning to study.
In Year 10, pupils who have opted to continue with French are eligible to participate in a 5-day trip to Paris, while those who have taken Spanish spend a similar amount of time in Barcelona. These trips provide the girls with ample opportunities to experience first-hand the culture of one of the countries where the language they study is spoken, while enabling them to put into practical use the language skills that they are acquiring in school.
