Shakespeare School Festival
For three weeks year 11 BTEC Performing Arts students, also known as the Iron Butterfly Company, have been working on the well known Shakespearian play A Midsummer Night’s Dream as part of the Shakespeare School Festival.
This festival is the largest drama youth festival in the UK. This year it has partnered with the National Youth Theatre who has delivered workshops and guidance to students and teacher directors.
We have devoted much of our lesson time and our own time after to rehearse after school with Mr Warburton and Mr Bell who directed this play.
We also took part in a workshop at the Ashcroft theatre, Corydon with Caterham School.
During this we participated in various warm-up activities which taught us how to be confident on stage and develop our characters.
The workshop leaders from The National Youth Theatre were very knowledgeable and made the workshop an excellent experience.

On the 9th October 2009 it came the day we had to perform at the Ashcroft Theatre.
We performed with three different schools: Caterham School, Glenthorne High School and Homefield Preparatory School. First we had a technical Rehearsal in which we tested out the lighting and music for our play.
We also had a dress rehearsal which went really well and we got plenty of laughs.
The show started at 7 pm and finished at 10 pm and our group was given the best time slot on the night, the last to perform and close the show with a bang.
We all worked well as a team and pulled of an amazing performance which got much applause.
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and would like to thank Mr Warburton for allowing us to have, and organising, this amazing experience.
We would also like to thank Mr Bell for helping with the directing and getting us to the theatre with his great driving.
